UBC Old Fire Hall, 2007
The University of British Columbia’s Old Fire Hall (constructed in 1926) is one of the many buildings that encroached upon the former West Mall Botanical Garden. Landclearing for the Botanical Garden had begun in 1916. At that time the portion of campus reserved for the Garden was considered isolated and remote. Within ten years, buildings stood right across the street. Photograph by David Brownstein, 2007.
